The Melbourne Cup

The Melbourne Cup is Australia's major annual thoroughbred horse race. It covers a distance of 3,200 metres. It happens once a year.The event is held on the first Tuesday in November since 1861, on the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne.

The event is one of the most popular events to watch in Australia. Over 110,000 people attend the race. In Melbourne, the race day is a public holiday. In the rest of Australia most people watch the race on television and gamble. Some people bet at the TAB. Other people bet in workplace cup "sweeps". In "sweeps" each person pays a small amount and draws a random horse. First, second, and third place then share the money.

Phar Lap is Australia's most famous racehorse, combining stamina and speed. He is the only horse to have started favourite in three successive Melbourne Cups. He came third in 1929, won the race in 1930 and ran eighth in 1931.

The Migrant Information Day

Yesterday, there was a the Migrant Information Day in Rockdale Town Hall which was supported by the St George Migrant Resource Centre, and it was very useful.
My classmates and I went there at 12pm. Luckily I had a lift from Miya who is a lovely girl, so I didn't need to walk. There were lots of information stalls inside, included immigration, tax, Learning English, employment, education and training, health, housing and much more. We got many hand-outs from there. I was interested in the information about Chinese learning course for children, because I wanted to take my children to learn Chinese. Although I teach them Chinese writing everyday, but I think it is better if they have a prefessional teaching. For the other classmates, they were more interested in the housing, education and training.
There were some food were sale as well, they looked delicious, but I didn't try. The other thing we could do there was watching dancing. There were some little girls dancing Thailand dances in the stage.
After that, Miya drove me back home, and we had lunch together.

On October 11, my husband and I took my children to The Sydney Motor Show.

A Good Time In Bundeena

On 6 September I went to Bundeena for an excursion with my classmates and other from level 3 and fulltime class.
It was a suitable day for going out because the temperature was great and the sun wasn't strong. Firstly my classmates and I met my teacher Marion at Cronulla station, then we had a lovely short walk along the small quiet clean street to Cronulla Public Wharf in such fresh air. Then we took photos with the beautiful sea view and enjoyed the cool sea wind and the sea smell. Secondly we took 20 minutes journey to across the big blue sea and looked at those luxury houses just beside the bank of the sea.They are our dream houses!! It took us 30 minutes to walk along the Jibbon beach and through the Royal National Park to reach the famous Dharawal Engravings. They are such amzing engravings and they could be from 200 to about 5 000 years old.The Dharawal people lived here possibly 30 000 years or more.
As soon as we were backward there was a big shower suddenly, maybe it was the Dharawal people were saying welcome to us! Anyway it was so strong but wasn't take long. Finally we walked to a club to have a delicious lunch.
After all most people went home by train but some students and I stayed Cronulla for a window shopping.
What a great time!!

Bundeena

Bundeena is an Aboriginal word meaning 'noise like thunder' where is a suburb on southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. There are such beautiful beaches at Bundeena are Jibbon Beach, Bonnie Vale Beach, Gunyah Beach and Horderns Beach. Walk along the Jibbon Beach you can reach the Royal National Park which is a wonderful camp site. Walk through the park, you can found some Aboriginal rock engravings. The engravings could be from 200 to about 5000 years old, and they were made by Dharawal people who were the original inhabitants of Bundeena and lived there for 30000 years or more.

Buying A Used Car

I haven't got any experience of buying a used car in my life but my husband has. He had bought used car twice before we bought the new one. He has told me that the price of used car in Australia is too expensive, it is much more expensive than in U.S.A, and it is rip off. And driving used car is too trouble, because you have never known what problem has happened on the car before and when it will happen again. By the way the fee of fixing car is expensive to, maybe you will spend the money on fixing more than the price of the used car. So this time we prefered to buy a cheap but new one.
