Planning

When you were happy, the time passed quickly just like water went through your fingers!
Now this term nearly up to the end, it is the time to think about my learnning plan for next year. Honestly, I havn't got exact plan yet. I think maybe I will take the course " skills for learnning and trading", but I am not sure. Luckly I am really sure I will back to TAFE next year!!

The Summer Palace

Today I am going to talk about The Summer Palace. This is a well-known tourist attraction in China. Firstly I will talk about scenic spots in The Summer Palace. Secondly I will talk about its history. Thirdly I will talk about why it is important in China. Fourthly I will tell you how to get there.
First of all, The Summer Palace is located in the northwest suburb in Beijing, which is the capital of China. It is a very big park! Does anyone know how big is it? Well, The Summer Palace occupies an area of 304 hectares. It features hilly and water scenery. There are more than 3000 buildings and 1600 kinds of trees and plants in it. One of the major spots is Longevity Hill, which is in the centre of the park. This hill is 60 meters high and is surrounded by a big lake called Kunming Lake. Which occupies 3 quarters of the park. Kunming Lake is divided into 3 sections by bridges and every section has a little island on it. Every island has different buildings. The most beautiful bridge is 17-Arch Bridge, it is 8 meters wide and 150 meters long and has over 500 lion carvings on it. The major building on Longevity Hill is the Foxiang Tower. This tower is 41 meters high and has 3 stories. It is decorated with glazed tiles. The Long Corridor running along the side of the lake is 800 meters long and has more than 8000 paintings on it. The Marble Boat is at the end of the Long Corridor by the bank of the Kunming Lake. This is 36 meters long and is 2 stories high. It is all made of marble.
Next I’d like to tell you a little bit of history about The Summer Palace. It was first built in 1750 and completed in 1764. In 1860 it was burned down by Anglo-French Allies and but it was rebuilt in 1886. The Summer Palace was opened to the public in 1924 and was added to the World Cultural Heritage list in 1998.
My third point is about The Summer Palace’s importance. The Summer Palace is an important place for China. Why is it important? It is because it is the largest imperial garden in China and it is a fantastic attraction for tourists. You can see how the kings and queens lived in olden days. It was the important political center of the Qin Dynasty (1644-1911). The Kings and Queens spent lots of time in it to avoid the heat from summer. You can see lots of old buildings, which are totally different from modern buildings. And also you can see heaps of amazing antiques.
Finally it is time to talk about the trip. Can anybody tell me how to get to The Summer Palace? Well! It is very easy! All you need to do is fly to Beijing. It costs just about Aus$1500 for a return ticket, and then you can catch a taxi there. The taxi won’t cost you much, because it is just a short way to go, about 12km from the center of Beijing. The entrance to The Summer Palace costs Aus$5 for per person. It is very cheap, isn’t it?
Well, that brings me to the end of my presentation, and now you can know a bit about The Summer Palace. You will agree it is a very good place to visit. Why not visit it one day if at anytime you go to Beijing?

The Melbourne Cup

The Melbourne Cup is Australia's major annual thoroughbred horse race. It covers a distance of 3,200 metres. It happens once a year. The event is held on the first Tuesday in November since 1861, on the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne.
The event is one of the most popular events to watch in Australia. Over 110,000 people attend the race. In Melbourne, the race day is a public holiday. In the rest of Australia most people watch the race on television and gamble. Some people bet at the TAB. Other people bet in workplace cup "sweeps". In "sweeps" each person pays a small amount and draws a random horse. First, second, and third place then share the money.
Phar Lap is Australia's most famous racehorse, combining stamina and speed. He is the only horse to have started favourite in three successive Melbourne Cups. He came third in 1929, won the race in 1930 and ran eighth in 1931.

The Migrant Information Day

Yesterday, there was a the Migrant Information Day in Rockdale Town Hall which was supported by the St George Migrant Resource Centre, and it was very useful.
My classmates and I went there at 12pm. Luckily I had a lift from Miya who is a lovely girl, so I didn't need to walk. There were lots of information stalls inside, included immigration, tax, Learning English, employment, education and training, health, housing and much more. We got many hand-outs from there. I was interested in the information about Chinese learning course for children, because I wanted to take my children to learn Chinese. Although I teach them Chinese writing everyday, but I think it is better if they have a prefessional teaching. For the other classmates, they were more interested in the housing, education and training.
There were some food were sale as well, they looked delicious, but I didn't try. The other thing we could do there was watching dancing. There were some little girls dancing Thailand dances in the stage.
After that, Miya drove me back home, and we had lunch together.

A Good Time In Bundeena

On 6 September I went to Bundeena for an excursion with my classmates and other from level 3 and fulltime class.
It was a suitable day for going out because the temperature was great and the sun wasn't strong. Firstly my classmates and I met my teacher Marion at Cronulla station, then we had a lovely short walk along the small quiet clean street to Cronulla Public Wharf in such fresh air. Then we took photos with the beautiful sea view and enjoyed the cool sea wind and the sea smell. Secondly we took 20 minutes journey to across the big blue sea and looked at those luxury houses just beside the bank of the sea. They are our dream houses!! It took us 30 minutes to walk along the Jibbon beach and through the Royal National Park to reach the famous Dharawal Engravings. They are such amzing engravings and they could be from 200 to about 5 000 years old.The Dharawal people lived here possibly 30 000 years or more.
As soon as we were backward there was a big shower suddenly, maybe it was the Dharawal people were saying welcome to us! Anyway it was so strong but wasn't take long. Finally we walked to a club to have a delicious lunch.
After all most people went home by train but some students and I stayed Cronulla for a window shopping.
What a great time!!

Buying A Used Car

I haven't got any experience of buying a used car in my life but my husband has. He had bought used car twice before we bought the new one. He has told me that the price of used car in Australia is too expensive, it is much more expensive than in U.S.A, and it is rip off. And driving used car is too trouble, because you have never known what problem has happened on the car before and when it will happen again. By the way the fee of fixing car is expensive to, maybe you will spend the money on fixing more than the price of the used car. So this time we prefered to buy a cheap but new one.

Hot Chips Cause Cancer And Take-away Food Dangerous

As everybody know, most of Australian people like chips. I can alway see many people eating chip while their breaktime include children at school. According to some scientists around world they have pointed out there is a very dangerous chemical substance-acrylamide in the Hot Chips. So I think people must change their eating habits do not eat chips any more or less. In case of it causes cancer or makes more fat. And also take-away food is dangerous. Because most of them have MSG(Monosdium Glutamate) inside and it can damages our eyes. So it is better to leave them to keep our life more health. Let's do it!!!!

OBESITY

Obesity is a unvarying topic!! I think the most important things to do to keep obese away from people is to change their eating habits. Because most of Australian people like chips, ice-cream, coffee, cola, chocolate... and these such things make people fat easier. And they need to eat more fruits, vegetables, water... And I think the sport equipment in school doesn't enough and the children need more exercises.
Obesity in Australia 1, obesity is due to fat being deposited on our bodies when the nutrients energy(kilojoules)we consume from food and drink is greater than the energy we use up in activities and at rest.
2, Aroud 7 million Australian adults are obese.
3, More men are overweight than women, but more women are obese. T
4, In the year 2020, 75 per cent of the Australian population will be overweight orobese. T
5, Body Mass Index is calculated by dividing a person's weight in kilograms by the their height in metres squared. T
6, People with a BMI of 25 or more are overweight, people with a BMI of 30 or more are considered obese.
7, 80 per cent of obese children will become obese adults.
8, Obesity increases the risk of many serious diseases, like stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure and coronary heart disease. T
9, There are least 14 diseases associated with obesity.
10, Adult obesity in Australia was linked to household income and employment. F
11, Adult obesity in Australia is linked to genes, eating habits, physical activity and television viewing habits. T
12, Obesity costs Australia taxpayers an estimated $1.5 billion every year in direct health costs.
13, More money is spent indirectly on weight management programs, people not going to work because of being sick and people dying too young. T
14, Name 3 recommendations on how to help solve the problem of obesity in Australia:
*Reduce the price of healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables and wholegrain products.
*Reduce food advertising during children's television programming.
*Improve the food available at school canteens and in workplaces.

Thin Models

Thin Models is a hard topic to talk about.
A Thin Model means the model whos BMI below 18.
Everything has two sizes. For fashion designers, they want models to be thiner to show how beautiful their design are! Resulting models keep skinny to humour the taste of the fashion designers. But for models themseves, it is a big problem to be too thin for their health. In fact they don't eat most of food just little fruit or vegetable to keep fit, some models even eat medicines to control the body. It is really unhealthy!
I think that thin models should stop doing this stupid things, because health is the most important thing in the life!!

Our Bridge

On 18th March of 2007, it was The Harbour Bridge's 75th Brithday(1932--2007). Australian people have a big celebration for her--She had a rest from the traffic on her brithday and people could walk through her. It was a spectacular amazing view! Absolutely!!!
The weather on that day wasn't so nice, no sunshine but no raining and not really hot, it was a suitale climate for walking outside.
My husband and I took my parents and our children to take part in the Bridge walking! We took the train at 1pm and got in
Wynyard about half past 1, than we changed the train to Milsons
Point. I've never ever seen train like that--fulled of people in the cabin!! A tin of sardine!! When we got our of the train I saw many staff stood on the platform to show which way people can go to the entry. But I thought we won't be loss even without the direction because everybody waw going there! just followed the crowd! When we got in the entry we got a little present from the Harbour Bridge--a green cap, you can see above. Then we started to walk! It was a hugh crowd, I never know how many people were there walking on the Bridge, I just saw the green cover the Bridge! Everyone was walking and taking photoes, some was singing and some was dancing, everyone was happy and enjoying. But just a while we got to the exit. When you are happy you never know time gone so fast!!
When we got home we all tired but we were so happy to been there and we are looking forward to next time--25 years later. I hope that I still alive!
